Position Overview

Core Responsibilities

This position entails aiding in the formulation and implementation of the Bank's IT Strategy. The role will involve defining and maintaining the strategy, ensuring effective communication and integration, monitoring progress, and facilitating executive and board-level reporting.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in technology, with a solid understanding of the bank's strategic objectives and technological environment, emerging technology trends, and strategic priorities within the financial services sector. They will demonstrate critical thinking abilities, uphold high standards, and maintain a mindset focused on continuous improvement, combining analytical depth with a results-oriented approach to drive transformation.

Key Duties

  • Direct the creation of the Bank's technology strategy, ensuring alignment with the UK business objectives, in collaboration with Group, branch, functional departments, and technology sectors.
  • Guarantee the strategy is updated annually, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, frameworks, and controls.
  • Investigate and implement best practices and insights regarding long-term technology trends, forecasts, and competitive intelligence relevant to strategic themes in Banking and Financial Services.
  • Remain informed about and ensure alignment with Group's technology strategies, such as the Group technology strategy and Group cloud strategy.
  • Act as the steward of the IT Modernisation investment case, promoting and advocating this across the organization.
  • Monitor and ensure the execution of the strategy, establishing metrics to measure adherence to the strategy and investment case.
  • Manage the risk mitigation and technical debt associated with the strategy's execution.
  • Assist in executive and board-level reporting and engagement concerning the strategy and investment case.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Head of Technology Strategy & Transformation regarding the strategic roadmap and initiatives, acting as a trusted advisor for strategic execution and transformation.
  • Effectively communicate and educate throughout the organization during the transformation process.

  • Proven experience in developing technology strategies within the Banking or Financial Services sector.
  • Experience in supporting the execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Familiarity with both legacy and modern core banking systems, technology vendors, and cloud solutions.
  • Experience in transitioning from legacy core banking systems and assessing the associated operational risks.
  • Ability to manage technical debt arising from deviations from the strategy and target architecture.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys working with others, learning from peers, and sharing knowledge.
  • Capability to foster a sense of community among diverse team members across various functions.
  • Proficiency in applying risk assessment and management principles to identify and mitigate complex risks and challenges.
  • Ability to comprehend, articulate, and translate customer journeys into technical design, strategy, and architecture.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create detailed reports and briefings for senior stakeholders.
