Core Responsibilities
This position is pivotal in aiding the formulation and implementation of the Bank's IT strategy. The individual will be responsible for shaping and sustaining the strategy, ensuring effective communication and integration, monitoring progress, and facilitating executive-level reporting.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in technology within the banking sector, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the institution's strategic objectives and technological environment, as well as prevailing trends and strategic themes in financial services. A critical thinker with high standards and a commitment to continuous improvement, they will blend analytical depth with a focus on execution and collaboration to drive meaningful change.
Key Duties
- Steer the creation of the Bank's technology strategy, ensuring alignment with the UK business objectives, in collaboration with Group, branch, functional departments, and technology sectors.
- Guarantee the strategy is updated annually, maintaining compliance with relevant policies, frameworks, and controls.
- Investigate and implement best practices and insights regarding long-term technology trends, competitive intelligence, and strategic themes within Banking and Financial Services.
- Remain informed about and ensure alignment with Group's technology strategies, such as cloud and digital strategies.
- Act as the steward of the IT Modernisation investment case, promoting and advocating for it throughout the organization.
- Monitor and ensure delivery against the strategy, establishing mechanisms to measure and validate alignment with the strategy and investment case.
- Manage the reduction of risks and technical debt associated with the strategy's execution.
- Assist in executive and board-level reporting and engagement concerning the strategy and investment case.
- Advise the Head of Technology Strategy & Transformation on the strategic roadmap and initiatives, serving as a trusted advisor in strategic delivery and transformation.
- Effectively communicate and educate across the organization throughout the transformation process.

- Proven experience in developing technology strategies within the Banking or Financial Services sector.
- Experience in supporting the execution of strategic initiatives.
- Familiarity with both legacy and modern core banking systems, technology vendors, and cloud solutions.
- Experience in transitioning from legacy core banking systems and understanding the associated operational risks.
- Ability to manage technical debt arising from deviations from the strategy and target architecture.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with meticulous attention to detail and a focus on continuous improvement.
- A collaborative team player who enjoys working with others, fostering a positive work environment.
- Ability to cultivate a sense of community among diverse team members.
- Proficient in applying risk assessment and management principles to preemptively address complex risks and challenges.
- Ability to articulate and translate customer journeys into technical design, strategy, and architecture.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of producing detailed reports for senior stakeholders.
