Cannock, Staffordshire, United Kingdom Turning Point Full time

Job Overview

Are you driven by personal experiences related to homelessness, addiction, or mental health challenges? This role presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to a pioneering service aimed at assisting individuals facing homelessness in accessing vital resources, including mental health care, healthcare services, substance misuse support, and sustainable housing solutions.

This position is designed to foster a dynamic community rather than merely a service, emphasizing collaborative decision-making.

The service focuses on two main areas:

  • Engaging with individuals experiencing street homelessness through proactive outreach.
  • Offering a tailored six-bedroom accommodation facility for those with a history of homelessness and complex needs, which may encompass mental health, substance misuse, and physical health challenges.

At Turning Point, we are dedicated to supporting individuals throughout the UK with mental health concerns. Your involvement will significantly impact their lives as you collaborate closely with them to help them realize their potential. Turning Point operates several well-established services within the region, and you will be part of a broader supportive network with opportunities for future growth.

Key Responsibilities

As a recovery support navigator, your role will be diverse and adaptable. Initially, you will facilitate access to services by engaging with individuals experiencing homelessness at street level and conducting a street-based assessment to determine the most suitable accommodation support needed. Building trust and rapport with rough sleepers will be essential, as will advocating on their behalf with various housing providers.

Following the assessment, you will continue to support individuals and collaborate with service providers across housing, mental health, and substance misuse sectors to ensure a smooth transition into accommodation and ongoing stability. Your role will involve providing motivational support to individuals in dispersed housing, including Turning Point's new supported accommodation, to help them maintain engagement with health professionals and sustain their recovery journeys.

As a complex needs navigator, you will work in close partnership with other providers to gather and coordinate critical information about individuals, facilitating rapid multi-agency interventions to avert crises that could jeopardize housing stability.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess relevant lived experience through direct engagement with health and social care services. A Level 3 qualification in Understanding Substance Misuse, along with training in mental health and trauma-informed care, is preferred. Alternatively, extensive experience or knowledge in working with homelessness and rough sleeping will be considered.

You should be passionate about empowering individuals who often lack a voice, demonstrating enthusiasm, energy, and empathy. Resourcefulness and innovation in addressing the needs of those experiencing homelessness are crucial, as is the ability to lead aspects of service development. Experience in coordinating multi-agency efforts and mobilizing rapid interventions to prevent service breakdown is essential.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in IT and digital systems, are also important for this role.
