Medical Secretary - Surgical Care Group / Colorectal

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Secretary to join our Colorectal team within the Surgical Care Group. This is a fixed-term role designed to cover Maternity Leave, offering a chance to work alongside a skilled secretarial team committed to enhancing patient experiences.
The role entails collaboration with two to three Consultant Colorectal Surgeons, where responsibilities will include managing diaries, coordinating outpatient activities, overseeing waiting lists, monitoring referrals, and preparing clinic correspondence.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, the ability to manage their workload independently, and the capability to meet tight deadlines. A background in a medical setting, along with completion of the AMSPAR course or an equivalent qualification, is essential. Familiarity with medical terminology and experience using EPRO (clinic letter tool) will be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive administrative support to consultants and specialty teams, including nurse practitioners and clinicians.
- Maintain up-to-date diaries, arrange appointments, and coordinate travel and accommodation logistics.
- Implement an efficient filing and bring-forward system.
- Manage and uphold 18-week pathways, including tertiary referrals, ensuring accurate documentation in the PAS system and timely patient reviews.
- Mentor and supervise staff as necessary, handling annual leave requests and conducting return-to-work interviews for sickness absence.
- Assist consultants with non-clinical tasks by preparing presentation materials and organizing meetings.
