Job Overview
As the Lead Technical Officer in Healthcare Services, you will serve as the primary liaison for healthcare facilities requiring urgent supply deliveries, ensuring that their requests are processed and fulfilled with maximum efficiency. In addition to performing various technical and scientific responsibilities—such as overseeing the temperature of storage facilities and conducting maintenance tasks—you will also play a crucial role in mentoring and developing junior staff members.

We seek candidates with a level 4 qualification, such as a BTEC or HNC in a relevant scientific discipline, NHSBT Foundation Degree, or equivalent experience in a manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain setting that necessitates intermediate theoretical knowledge gained through formal education.

Ideally, you will possess a solid understanding of basic IT applications and some experience working independently in a laboratory context. A collaborative team player, you will be adept at motivating yourself and others while managing a diverse range of responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of scientific and technical tasks related to blood (and, when applicable, tissue) donations, with team support.
  • Oversee the training and support of new and less experienced personnel.
  • Perform precise and repetitive handling of equipment and blood samples/donations, executing routine tasks consistently.
  • Manage blood bags and various equipment responsibly.
  • Work variable hours, including weekends and holidays, as per departmental scheduling (unless otherwise specified in the shift agreement) with adequate notice.
  • Physically handle equipment daily, weighing up to 13 kg, with or without mechanical assistance, following appropriate training.

This position involves shift work covering days, evenings, nights, and holidays, with some solitary duties. The shift pattern spans 8 weeks, averaging 7.5 hours between 8 am and 1 am. Participation in an On-call Rota is also required.

Candidate Profile

Experience and Expertise

  • Proven experience in supervising team members.
  • Familiarity with Information Technology, including Microsoft Office.

Qualifications and Development

  • Level 4 qualification, such as BTEC or HNC in a relevant scientific field, NHSBT Foundation Degree, or equivalent experience in a manufacturing, logistics, or supply chain environment requiring intermediate theoretical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal development.
  • Willingness to pursue further training and development opportunities.
