Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Head of Transportation Unit to join our London design office. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 20 years' experience in a multi-disciplinary design and consultancy environment, with a strong background in transportation management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the transportation department's workload of mainly international projects, predominately within the Middle East and Africa.
  • Prepare commercial bid proposals and tenders.
  • Act as project manager for projects led by the Department, or may act as Group Leader and coordinate the Transportation Team inputs for projects led by other disciplines.
  • Maintain liaison and provide technical support to other Departments, Area Offices, and Project Sites, as required.
  • Interact with Client representatives through meetings and presentations to represent the Company's interests.
  • Ensure the Company's Quality Assurance system is applied at all times.
  • Monitor work and outputs produced by the Transportation Team and external specialized sub-contractor.
  • Coordinate project details with Senior Directors.
  • Oversee deliverables and ensure they are submitted on time, on budget, and to the highest quality.
  • Undertake day-to-day operations of a Department, including allocating resources, approving leave, signing off expenses, approving travel, and so forth.
  • Occasionally, the Head of Department will also actively participate in projects as a technical expert.

Requirements

  • 3-year degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of experience and education; MSc. or higher is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing projects and resources, people.
  • Experience of working in different operational environments, especially in less-developed and emerging nations.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, and good report writing abilities. Knowledge of a second language would be a bonus.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
