About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team at Hall & Kay Fire Engineering. As a Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of sprinkler systems for various sectors and projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design Development: Develop the design of sprinkler systems through coordination with client representatives and other service contracts, resulting in a final scheme.
  • Design Programme Management: Contribute to the design programme by monitoring progress against the construction programme and specification requirements.
  • Site Meetings: Attend site meetings independently, when necessary, to discuss design matters.
  • Design Drawings: Prepare complete working drawings in accordance with design codes, including hydraulic calculations to establish pipe sizes.
  • Material Procurement: List off materials for various purposes, including procurement, estimating of variations, and schedule of rates.
  • Supplier Communication: Forward drawings and quantities of materials to suppliers and subcontractors for procurement purposes.
  • Other Responsibilities: Perform other activities as instructed by the Project Manager or Design Manager, including familiarizing and complying with company policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Design Engineering Experience: Comprehensive experience in a design engineering role within the sprinkler industry.
  • Industry Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge and familiarity with LPC BS EN 12845 rules.
  • Qualifications: LPCB Intermediate qualification and LPCB Full Hydraulic Calculation qualification (highly desirable).
  • Software Proficiency: Experience and proficiency in using Autocad, with Revit 3D experience highly desirable.
  • Full Hydraulic Calculation Software: Experience and proficiency in Full Hydraulic Calculation software, ideally Canute.
  • Industry Standards: Knowledge of Factory Mutual Standards and NFPA standards (highly desirable).
  • Education: HND or Degree qualification in a construction or engineering design-related topic (highly desirable).
  • Leadership and Communication: Experience of managing, developing, mentoring, and leading a team, with successful communication with clients and colleagues at all levels.
