About the Role

ArcelorMittal South Africa Limited is seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees and the integrity of our operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current health and safety policies, regulations, and industrial processes to ensure compliance and identify potential hazards.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to evaluate their effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and implement safety programs to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Lead plant teams in analyzing high-risk areas and compiling HIRA reports to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Perform audits and report on the effectiveness of our safety program to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure proper administrative controls are in place to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Work closely with the GMR 2,1 to ensure statutory actions are addressed and drive improvement projects to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Responsible for driving, executing, and obtaining best resources from plant teams to achieve safety and risk management goals.
  • Participate in daily safety dialogues and forums to lead the way and support the GM in achieving safety excellence.
  • Verify and sign off on closed loops and drive risk management to inform the GM of progress and issues for support.
Requirements
  • Relevant Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Electrical
  • Diploma in Safety Management or NEBOSH International General Certification preferable
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of the OHS Act and safety practices
  • Proven experience with safety risk management
