London, Greater London, United Kingdom Ministry of Defence Full time

Job Overview

Are you interested in contributing to one of the foremost Defence organisations globally? Do you possess experience in a Programme Management Office (PMO)?

The Field Army is seeking a dedicated PMO team member to join the HQ Field Army Capability Branch, focusing on the Modernisation Implementation Plan (MIP). This role is integral to a significant modernisation initiative aimed at delivering advanced capabilities for the British Army. It presents an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact in Defence.

This position entails a commitment of 37 hours per week.

Role Responsibilities

The organisation has initiated its most extensive capability modernisation effort since the end of the Second World War. The Capability Branch of the Field Army is tasked with ensuring that operational and readiness outputs are maintained while transitioning to these new capabilities. The PMO Team, based in Andover and 3(UK) Div at Bulford Camp, is being established to drive the Modernisation Implementation Plan (MIP) and to facilitate the delivery of modernisation outcomes across the Field Army, in partnership with Defence Lines of Development (DLOD) owners.

The successful candidate will be part of a core team focused on the development, construction, and management of the final Modernisation Implementation Plan. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Programme / Project Monitoring and Review: Assisting in the development and ongoing enhancement of data collection from DLODs to ensure that information is effectively consolidated and presented through Management Information (MI) dashboards at relevant forums for senior management.
  • Project / Programme Controls: Aiding in the creation and implementation of Programme / Project documentation.
  • Risk and Issue Management: Overseeing risk and issue management, including policy formulation, guidance, risk management planning, implementation, and assurance.
  • Planning & Progress Reporting: Responsible for planning and scheduling, as well as the creation and delivery of regular progress reports to senior management, providing expert analysis to identify trends, issues, and recommendations.
  • Governance: Developing governance frameworks within the team and establishing agreed strategies to ensure efficient processes and practices.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals with a proven track record in managing significant change programmes and projects within a PMO. Candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills with stakeholders across various organisations and levels, including interactions with senior leadership.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have experience working within a PMO environment.

  • Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) - Practitioner Qualification
  • PRINCE2 - Practitioner Qualification
  • Management of Risk (MoR) - Practitioner Qualification

Alternatively, candidates should be willing to pursue a recognised P3M qualification within the first year of employment, following successful completion of the probation period.

  • Changing and Improving

Evidence of the following behaviours should be included in the application:

Employee Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary of £43,080, the Ministry of Defence contributes £11,631 towards membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. We are committed to supporting our employees' work-life balance through flexible working practices.

We value hard work and collaboration within our teams. You will have access to:
