Plymouth, Plymouth, United Kingdom University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are thrilled to announce an opportunity for an Oncology and Aseptic Services Pharmacist to become a vital member of our dedicated team.

If you are a passionate and driven pharmacist eager to advance your career in oncology or aseptic services, we encourage you to explore this role.

This position will involve collaborating with the Cancer Services team to provide specialized pharmacy services to patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer therapies in both inpatient and outpatient environments. You will engage with a variety of solid tumors and hematological malignancies, including participation in our extensive cancer clinical trials. As a key player in the pharmacy department, you will have the chance to receive training in aseptic services, clinical trials, and pediatric oncology for a comprehensive professional experience.

You will assist the Accountable Pharmacist and play an essential role in the pharmacy team as we transition to new aseptic facilities in the near future. Your responsibilities will include verifying and releasing aseptically prepared products and overseeing the broader Pharmaceutical Quality Systems (PQS) to ensure compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP).

Depending on your career stage, funding for a diploma, PTQA, or independent prescribing qualification may be available. We also encourage engagement in practice research.

Main Responsibilities

• This role will be accountable for delivering and enhancing high-quality, patient-centered clinical pharmacy services for individuals within Cancer Services.

• Promote the safe, rational, and cost-effective utilization of medications within the Hematology/Oncology sectors.

• Review systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) prescriptions for both inpatient and outpatient settings using the ARIA electronic prescribing system.

• Serve as a key member of the cancer services pharmacy team, taking on a leadership role for the ward-based pharmacy team in the absence of advanced specialists or lead pharmacists.

• Collaborate closely with the Specialist Pharmacist for Aseptic Services in the absence of the Accountable Pharmacy, Deputy Accountable Pharmacy, or Aseptic Services Manager, taking on responsibilities for the preparation of medications under Section 10 of the Medicines Act 1968.

• Participate in the Cancer and Aseptic Services on-call and out-of-hours service on a rotational basis.

• Conduct training and clinical supervision for pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.

• Engage in audits and contribute to Quality Improvement and practice research initiatives.

• Collaborate with senior pharmacists, clinical teams, and governance teams to develop guidelines, protocols, and PGDs within both cancer and aseptic services.
