Role Overview

Ecclesiastical Insurance, a proud member of the Benefact Group, is seeking a Senior Underwriter to enhance our operations in the Birmingham office.

The successful candidate will provide outstanding customer service as part of the underwriting team, supporting Ecclesiastical's commitment to a "right first time" service approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee a designated caseload.
  • Serve as a point of reference for the team, offering coaching and training in a timely manner.
  • Identify and implement tailored training for individuals or regions.
  • Assist less experienced team members in their engagement with brokers.
  • Develop, negotiate, and profitably underwrite new and existing business within your authority and aligned with Brand strategy.
  • Provide on-site underwriting support at partner and customer locations as necessary.
  • Organize, prioritize, and manage personal workload to achieve objectives and meet service level agreements.
  • Utilize appropriate communication methods (telephone, face-to-face) to uphold Ecclesiastical's commitment to effective internal and external relationships.
  • Act on audit results and agreed action plans within set deadlines to enhance personal performance.
  • Conduct file audits and follow up on audit actions in accordance with the regional plan, participating in audit consistency meetings and providing constructive feedback.
  • Comprehend and operate within the regulatory framework, identifying and escalating any potential risks.
  • Recognize complaints, address them, and resolve in accordance with company policy.
  • Conduct audits and offer feedback, coaching, and training as necessary.
  • Support team management as required.
  • Continuously expand personal technical and niche knowledge through networking, industry resources, and formal training.
  • Maintain and develop your underwriting authority, taking responsibility for your professional growth.
  • Deliver underwriting excellence through specialized knowledge and commercial awareness.
  • Share best practices and insights that would benefit the broader team.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and simplification in processes and workflows.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade C or above or equivalent experience.
  • Qualified Dip CII or a commitment to achieve within an agreed timeframe.
  • Graduate from Ecclesiastical's internal Underwriting academy at level 2 within an agreed timeframe.
  • Comprehensive market, industry, and company knowledge.
  • A proven history of delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Proficient IT skills (will be assessed).
  • Strong verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience in coaching within a commercial setting.
  • Effective stakeholder management experience in a commercial context.
