Specialized Teaching Assistants for Autism Support

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

GSL Education is seeking qualified and passionate Specialized Teaching Assistants for Autism Support to join a dedicated team at a Special Educational Needs institution.

Key Qualifications for Autism Support Teaching Assistants:

  • Recent experience in supporting individuals with Autism.
  • Understanding of the unique needs and behaviors associated with Autism.
  • Desirable training in de-escalation techniques, Team Teach, MAPA, or NAPPI.
  • A calm, nurturing, and patient demeanor.
  • Experience utilizing PECs and Makaton for communication with individuals with speech and language challenges.
  • Flexibility in adapting to various educational scenarios.
  • Possession of an Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service or willingness to obtain one through GSL Education.

Responsibilities of Autism Support Teaching Assistants:

  • Assist educators in designing and delivering lessons tailored to the diverse needs of students with Autism.
  • Provide personalized support to students, focusing on their individual strengths and challenges.
  • Encourage the development of communication and social skills among students.
  • Collaborate with educators and specialists to create and implement behavior management strategies.
  • Gather and analyze data on student progress to inform educational planning and assess intervention effectiveness.
  • Build positive relationships with students, their families, and educational staff.

As a Specialized Teaching Assistant for Autism Support, it is essential to have a comprehensive understanding of Autism and its associated behaviors. A positive attitude, enthusiasm, and resilience are crucial for effectively engaging and supporting students.

Note: This position requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection. Successful candidates must complete all necessary background checks, including an Enhanced DBS.
