We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Examiner Officer to join our team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. As a Medical Examiner Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Medical Examiner process, the Trust's mortality process, and providing support to staff around mortality and the Medical Examiner Service.
Main Responsibilities- Effective communication with multidisciplinary teams, relatives, and external agencies to discuss medical certificates of cause of death and collect additional information.
- Assisting relatives in identifying appropriate information and additional support, and escalating concerns to the Medical Examiner or Coroners Office as necessary.
- Participating in meetings with relatives and the Medical Examiner team to discuss medical examiner scrutiny and outcomes.
- Carrying out initial screening of medical notes to identify cases requiring referral to the Coroner.
- Supporting medical staff in formulating cause of death and developing confidence in communication skills around death certification and the Medical Examiner Office.
- Registered Nurse or Allied Health Profession qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting with multi-disciplinary teams and organizational boundaries.
- Understanding of medical terminology and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy to use IT software for recording personal identifiable data and producing statistical information.
- Experience as a Medical Examiner Officer.
- Completion of the Royal College of Pathologists Medical Examiners Officers e-Learning.
