Receptionist Critical Care Specialist

The role of Receptionist Critical Care is crucial for the smooth operation of the Adult Critical Care unit. As a key member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional receptionist duties while working under the direction of the ward sister. Your ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, will be essential in ensuring the seamless delivery of patient care.
Main Responsibilities- Provide administrative support to the team, including completing necessary documentation and inputting data on the Patient Administration System (PAS).
- Check unit bed state and record all patient activity, ensuring accurate tracking of patient movements, transfers, or discharges.
- Log on to the NHS Strategic Tracing Service to accurately trace patient details, including general practitioners, dates of birth, and other relevant information.
- Regularly file results slips, investigation reports, and nursing documentation in patient case notes, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Communicate with GP surgeries to provide details of admissions and deaths when necessary.
- Organise and dispatch necessary documentation relative to patient deaths.
- Monitor the PAS system regularly to record patient test results and update patient records.
- Liaise with medical secretaries, theatre staff, and shift charge to coordinate booking and cancellation of elective patients.
- Photocopy medical notes for discharges to other hospitals, as required.
- Collate and return case notes and X-rays to file as needed.
- Maintain stock of medical and nursing documentation and general stationery, ordering new supplies or photocopying templates as necessary.
- GCSE/O-Level or equivalent standard in English and Maths.
- Computer literacy, including typing skills and experience using Microsoft Office programmes.
- Customer service skills and ability to work under pressure, using initiative when necessary.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and external agencies.
- Friendly and approachable demeanor, with a calm and well-organised approach to work.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Fitness to perform duties in accordance with the job description.
- Ability to manual handle and manoeuvre equipment/loads.
- Demonstrate a flexible approach to working Monday to Sunday, with daytime hours currently, but with the potential for cross-site cover and different shift patterns.
- Ability to cope with daily exposure to distressing sights, sounds, and situations.
- Demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's values.
