Quality and Governance Matron

We are seeking an experienced and skilled midwife to join our senior leadership team as our Quality and Governance Matron. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and coordinate all aspects of clinical quality, risk management, and governance processes across maternity services.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate clinical quality, risk management, and governance processes in maternity services.
- Develop and implement a planned programme of work to maintain CNST safety standards within maternity.
- Monitor performance and delivery of excellence in clinical care.
- Lead investigations into serious incidents and potential litigation cases.
- Implement, monitor, and develop the maternity clinical risk management strategy.
- Lead the Maternity Risk and Governance team.
- Coordinate the Maternity Governance Committee, Maternity Incident Review and Escalation forum, and Labour Ward Forum.
- Be highly visible and approachable to staff, women, and their families using the service.
- Undertake extended hour roles as appropriate to support the delivery of the quality agenda.
- Develop Clinical Risk Management initiatives and strategies.
- Work in collaboration with the Consultant Midwife to identify and action quality improvement initiatives.
- Investigate incidents completely and thoroughly.
- Liaise with external stakeholders to ensure Patient Safety Incident Response Investigations are conducted in line with national and local requirements.
- Provide statistics as required by the Division or the Trust.
- Assist the Legal Department in the management of litigation cases.
- Manage and maintain the Maternity programme of audit and guideline management.
Education and Qualifications
- Registered Midwife.
- BSc degree qualification.
- Previous experience in a Governance related role.
Desirable
- MSc or working towards.
Experience and Knowledge
- Substantial experience at Band 7 or senior Band 6 position.
- Knowledge of Maternity Governance.
- Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management.
Skills
- Good communicator with colleagues, even in challenging situations.
- Understanding clinical guidelines.
- Ability to produce a chronology of care provided.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
