Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Midwife to step into the pivotal role of Maternity Quality and Safety Lead within our esteemed organization. This position is a key component of our senior leadership team, focusing on enhancing the quality and governance of our maternity services.

The Maternity Quality and Safety Lead will be responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and providing expert guidance on all facets of clinical quality, risk management, and governance protocols across our maternity services. The role is well-supported, and the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the maternity leadership team to integrate lessons learned from incidents and patient feedback into our practices.

Key Responsibilities

The Maternity Quality and Safety Lead will:

  • Oversee and guide all aspects of clinical quality and risk management within maternity services.
  • Review, define, and implement strategies related to the quality agenda for maternity and midwifery services.
  • Establish clear outcome measures to ensure compliance with local and national standards and policies.
  • Lead initiatives such as NHS Resolution Maternity Safety Actions (CNST).
  • Serve as a visible and credible midwifery leader, demonstrating expert clinical knowledge and a thorough understanding of governance processes.
  • Monitor performance metrics and ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical care.
  • Conduct investigations into serious incidents and potential litigation cases, ensuring timely and thorough reporting.
  • Implement and refine the maternity clinical risk management strategy in alignment with the Trust's overall clinical risk management framework.
  • Lead the Maternity Risk and Governance team, providing support and direction to the Quality Improvement Midwife and Bereavement team.

Collaboration and Communication

The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Midwifery, Deputy Head of Midwifery, Consultant Midwife, and other key stakeholders to:

  • Ensure that the Maternity Risk and Governance Strategy is effectively communicated and implemented across all levels of staff.
  • Support investigations into incidents, including the preparation of reports and learning responses.
  • Conduct regular reviews of incidents and evaluate action plans to ensure recommendations are effectively implemented.
  • Develop action plans to mitigate risks, identifying necessary resources and changes in clinical practice.
  • Maintain a robust performance management framework to address all aspects of risk management and clinical governance.
  • Act as a clinical role model, promoting high standards of professional practice and collaboration within the multidisciplinary team.
