Quality and Governance Matron

We are seeking an experienced and skilled midwife to join our senior leadership team as our Quality and Governance Matron. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and coordinate all aspects of clinical quality, risk management, and governance processes across maternity services.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate clinical quality, risk management, and governance processes in maternity services.
- Develop and implement a planned programme of work to maintain CNST safety standards within maternity.
- Monitor performance and delivery of excellence in clinical care.
- Investigate incidents and potential litigation cases, ensuring timely investigations and preparation of preliminary reports.
- Implement, monitor, and develop the maternity clinical risk management strategy in line with the Trust's clinical risk management strategy.
- Lead the Maternity Risk and Governance team, including the Quality Improvement Midwife and the Bereavement team.
- Provide leadership and support for healthcare governance activities within maternity services.
- Coordinate the Maternity Governance Committee, Maternity Incident Review and Escalation forum, and Labour Ward Forum.
- Be highly visible and approachable to staff, women, and their families using the service, and the public.
- Undertake extended hour roles as appropriate to support the delivery of the quality agenda throughout the 24-hour care period.
- Develop Clinical Risk Management initiatives and strategies.
- Work in collaboration with the Consultant Midwife to identify and action quality improvement initiatives.
- Investigate incidents completely and thoroughly, using the appropriate methods in line with the Trust Patient Safety Incident Response Plan.
- Liaise with Trust-wide and external stakeholders to ensure Patient Safety Incident Response Investigations are conducted in line with national and local requirements.
- Provide statistics as required by the Division or the Trust, including high-level reports relevant to quality, risk, and governance.
- Assist the Legal Department in the management of litigation cases, providing advice, support, and written reports as required.
- Manage and maintain the Maternity programme of audit and guideline management.
- Be integral in the identification of external recommendations, perform GAP analysis, and monitoring of those action plans to address any gaps identified.
- Report to and work with MBRRACE, PMRT, HSIB, and NHS Resolutions.
- Be a UKOSS lead.
Education and Qualifications
- Registered Midwife.
- BSc degree qualification.
- Previous experience in a Governance-related role.
Desirable
- MSc or working towards.
Experience and Knowledge
- Substantial experience at Band 7 or senior Band 6 position.
- Knowledge of Maternity Governance.
- Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management.
Skills
- Good communicator with colleagues, even in challenging situations.
- Understanding clinical guidelines.
- Ability to produce a chronology of care provided.
