About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Health Visitor Specialist to join our team at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust. As a Health Visitor Specialist, you will play a vital role in promoting the health and wellbeing of children and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the team to plan and deliver a commissioned health visiting service, identifying health needs and developing individual programs of care.
  • Maintain the safety and protection of children by following Pan-Sussex Child Protection procedures and participating in meetings, discussions, and case conferences as appropriate.
  • Work in partnership with other agencies and disciplines to offer optimum support to children and families, keeping accurate and contemporaneous records and written reports as required.
  • Represent the clinical area at relevant forums and meetings, using IT and performance management systems to improve the quality and coordination of services and meet contractual requirements.
  • Adhere to Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust safeguarding procedures, attending case conferences, other meetings, and partnership working as required.
  • Provide support for the recruitment and selection of team members, including managing the induction and orientation for new staff, participating in analysis of the caseload to ensure an efficient and effective service, and contributing to audit programs as required.
  • Act as a clinical expert and health information resource, participating in training, education, and orientation programs for staff, students, and others as required, incorporating relevant research findings into practice and participating in approved research programs.
  • Provide, supervise, and support the delivery of an effective program of childhood developmental surveillance and health promotion activities both within the organization and with community partners.
  • Participate in mandatory and other training as agreed in the PDR process and as required by the Trust, attending training for supervision and participating in supervision on a regular basis as directed by the service.
  • Drive to clients' homes, between bases, and to meetings/training, carrying equipment to client homes and to healthy child clinic sites.

  • Qualifications:
    • Essential:
      • NMC registered SCPHN (HV)
      • Registered Nurse/Midwife Qualification
    • Desirable:
      • Mentorship qualification level 6/7
      • Practice Teacher
      • Level 3 Child Protection module
  • Skills:
    • Essential:
      • Clinical competences appropriate to role
      • Excellent written skills
      • Able to assess, develop, and implement programs of care
    • Experience:
      • Essential:
        • Experience of working within a team environment
        • Knowledge of clinical governance, clinical audit, clinical supervision, and professional codes of conduct (NMC)
      • Desirable:
        • Active participation in safeguarding children
        • Management of team/staff members
