This is an exciting opportunity to join University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, one of the leading NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, as a Biomedical Scientist in the Microbiology department. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our team, providing a patient-focused quality service that is committed to the trust values.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for safely handling, using, and disposing of biological samples, maintaining compliance with good laboratory practice, quality assurance procedures, and ensuring that all results are reported within the agreed turnaround time. They will also be required to be familiar with and ensure compliance to national, Trust, and departmental Health and Safety policies, risk assessments, and COSHH assessments.
The candidate will work as part of a UKAS accredited service, made up of a specialist and experienced team of 70+ staff, all working towards a common goal. They will be expected to take responsibility for their work while rotating around the laboratory and work well within a team with a patient-focused attitude and quality in mind.

Person SpecificationWe are looking for a Biomedical Scientist with the following qualifications and experience:
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or equivalent academic achievement that is ratified by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS)
- State registration with Health Professions Council (HPC)
- Evidence of continuing professional development and proficiency in accordance with HPC guidelines
- Experience of working in clinical laboratories
- Experience of laboratory techniques and automation
