Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an Apprentice Utility Technician within the RSK SafeGround division, specializing in underground utility detection. This role is based in a dynamic team environment where you will gain valuable experience and training.

The selected candidate will be part of the RSK SafeGround team, where they will receive comprehensive training as a Utility Survey Technician. This full-time position entails a commitment of 40 hours per week, along with enrollment in the Level 3 Geospatial Survey Technician Apprenticeship program at a recognized institution for a duration of three years, which includes periodic block release.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support Utility Surveyors in the detection and mapping of utilities, employing advanced techniques such as electro-magnetic locators, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), and topographical GPS.
  • Prepare essential site documentation for work crews, including Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Analyze service plans provided by utility companies, covering electricity, water, gas, and telecommunications.
  • Develop skills in report writing for various projects.
  • Assist in various tasks to facilitate the completion of utility surveying projects.
  • Acquire technical knowledge to advance in a utility surveying career.
  • Manage equipment organization and maintenance tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:

This position is ideal for individuals eager to embark on or further their career in the utility surveying sector. The role encompasses both fieldwork and office responsibilities, with travel across the UK required. Candidates will be paired with experienced Utility Surveyors for on-the-job training and will participate in in-house training sessions to enhance their expertise with surveying and geospatial equipment.

Applicants should possess:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • GCSE qualifications in Mathematics and English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • A diligent, adaptable, and responsible work ethic.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to follow instructions effectively.
  • A full UK Driving Licence for operating company vehicles.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Willingness to work away from home and adapt to project-specific hours.
  • A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C), including Maths and English.
