Role Overview: As a Senior Surveying Manager, you will oversee the daily operations and development of surveyors and trainees within the branch, ensuring optimal productivity and efficiency.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the progression of tenders to establish a precise foundation for pricing, allowing adequate time for thorough evaluation by the management team.
  • Utilize commercial acumen to safeguard the organization from financial or operational setbacks.
  • Maintain a consistent presence on-site to ensure that commercial data accurately reflects the current status.
  • Review contract and tender documentation to identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of the local market dynamics.
  • Disseminate production targets and establish contract Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) metrics.
  • Ensure the quality of subcontractor agreements to prevent situations that could lead to claims against the organization.
  • Monitor ongoing contract expenditures against the initial tender specifications.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Authorize payments to subcontractors in line with company guidelines.
  • Finalize accounts within the stipulated contractual timeframe.
  • Ensure financial reports accurately depict the status of contracts concerning progress, valuations, billings, and receivables.
  • Establish detailed and summary-level targets for contracts, from operational staff to management.
  • Regularly assess the branch's cost structure, including labor rates, subcontractor expenses, equipment, and materials.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluation, and development of:
  • Commercial and estimating personnel
  • Administrative staff


Additional Duties:

  • Actively engage in and influence the monthly contract portfolio report for branch review.
  • Assist in the negotiation and collection of outstanding debts.
  • Support commercial tender decisions within the branch, contributing to pre-tender submissions and necessary documentation.
  • Participate fully in weekly branch meetings to discuss project costs, value, and progress.
  • Attend and contribute to regional and national management meetings as required.
  • Communicate effectively with regional and branch managers regarding contract practices to enhance commercial performance and mitigate payment disputes.
  • Provide commercial assurance through forecasting and project reviews, identifying potential risks.
  • Offer guidance on contractual disputes with clients and subcontractors to strengthen the organization's position.
  • Assist management with portfolio analysis, focusing on underperforming projects and exploring improvement strategies.
  • Engage in negotiations regarding final accounts and dispute resolutions for high-value clients.
  • Participate in discussions with clients to agree on rebate levels based on sound commercial data.


Financial Acumen:

  • Possess a valid UK driving license.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing diverse contracts successfully, with a solid understanding of financial and contractual controls.


Qualifications:

  • CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management & Leadership.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • CSCS card – Manager/Professionally qualified individual.
  • Completion of mandatory training modules as defined by iHASCO.


Project Oversight:

  • Experience in managing commercial aspects of large-scale projects.
  • Preferably with a background in social housing within a contracting environment.
  • This role will primarily be office-based but may require site surveys for significant tenders.
  • You will oversee the commercial activities of other surveyors without managing your own contracts.
