This pivotal role will spearhead the development of a comprehensive framework of initiatives aimed at achieving our ambition of becoming a net zero carbon organization by 2035. The successful applicant will be integrated into the Engineering team, reporting directly to the Engineering Director while collaborating with various departments across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess sustainability risks and devise suitable mitigation strategies while identifying opportunities to enhance Airedale's sustainability profile throughout the organization.
  • Advance sustainable business objectives through operational processes, supply chain management, product development, and system enhancements.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of existing KPIs and maintain a roadmap for continuous improvement.
  • Lead and coordinate the journey towards achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2035, addressing scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • Perform embodied carbon assessments for both new and existing products, developing a standardized calculator for future product innovations.
  • Generate Environmental Product Declarations.
  • Conduct lifecycle analysis of products to evaluate carbon emissions.
  • Facilitate the implementation of suitable ESG software to enable external reporting and support for clientele.
  • Research and identify sustainable technologies relevant to Airedale's current and future product offerings.
  • Collaborate closely with product development teams to enhance product designs aimed at reducing lifecycle carbon emissions.
  • Work alongside the procurement team to uncover carbon reduction opportunities within the supply chain.
  • Partner with Operations and Environmental Management teams to monitor plant-level carbon emissions with the goal of reduction.
  • Maintain a robust understanding of sustainability and climate change policies across the UK, EMEA, NA, and APAC regions, ensuring compliance with established frameworks and processes.
  • Align with corporate sustainability initiatives and execute data-center-specific agreements.
  • Disseminate knowledge throughout the organization to keep all departments informed of relevant requirements and policies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in environmental engineering or a related scientific discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of sustainable engineering practices, material selection, and lifecycle carbon reduction strategies.
  • Experience in a sustainability-focused role and familiarity with ESG software.
  • Proficient in using embodied carbon calculators, such as CIBSE TM65.
  • Strong understanding of the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and climate change adaptation strategies.
  • Experience in energy reduction through behavioral change initiatives.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities and project management skills.
  • Strong communication capabilities.
  • A genuine passion for sustainability and low carbon design.
