Main Purpose of Role:

To deliver technical assistance within Environmental Services, encompassing inspections, inquiries, and necessary follow-up actions, including guidance, support, and enforcement measures.

Key Responsibilities:

To ensure the effective execution of various responsibilities that align with the professional expertise expected of a Compliance Specialist.


Responsibilities include:
1. Management of contaminated land issues;
2. Monitoring air quality;
3. Regulation of private water supplies;
4. Oversight of industrial process regulations;
5. Addressing statutory nuisance complaints and pollution-related anti-social behavior;
6. Providing expert advice to planning and licensing teams.

To conduct site inspections, investigate complaints, and initiate necessary actions.

To be accountable for the execution of assigned duties within the designated division of the service.

To ensure adherence to the organization's Policies, Standing Orders, Delegated Powers, and other relevant requirements.

To prepare or assist in the creation of reports and financial or statistical data as required, including annual reports and submissions to Council or Committees.

To represent the Service and/or Council at Council, Committee, or other meetings with external organizations, providing necessary reports.


To safeguard all equipment assigned to the section/individual.

To supervise day-to-day activities of designated technical staff or trainees assigned for specific tasks or periods.

To stay informed about legal and technical advancements within the professional field and specifically within the area of responsibility.

To assist in the formal training of Trainee/Student Environmental Health Officers and other staff requiring knowledge of the professional function.


To perform duties outside regular office hours and on weekends as necessary.

To participate in any call-out or standby services operated by the organization outside normal working hours as required.

General Responsibilities:

To be aware of and fulfill responsibilities under the organization's Policy and Guidance regarding Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults.

To comply with current Health and Safety Regulations and the organization's Health and Safety policies as they pertain to the role.

To engage in personal and professional development, enhancing knowledge and skills through agreed means as part of the organization's Performance Appraisal Scheme.

To identify and manage risks, incorporating them into the formal risk management process, and report any concerns to management.

To produce performance information accurately and timely, in accordance with the organization's Data Quality Policy.


To adhere to the organization's Equal Opportunities Policy.

To undertake any other duties reasonably assigned to the role, commensurate with the grading and responsibilities.


To be familiar with the obligations and requirements of the organization's information security and data protection policies, ensuring that confidential and sensitive data is handled securely and personal data is processed in accordance with the Data Protection Acts.
