The Opportunity
Salary: £24,294 to £24,702 per annum
Working Pattern: Full-Time (37 hours)
Contract Length: Permanent
Location: Arun Early Help Hub, Wickbourne Centre, Littlehampton
As a Family Support Specialist, your commitment will be to empower families in managing their challenges and accessing timely support and guidance. You will assist parents in enhancing their knowledge, confidence, and resilience, enabling them to be the best advocates for their children. This involves direct engagement with parents to identify their concerns and the objectives they wish to pursue through a holistic family-centered approach. You may also lead group sessions for families, addressing various topics based on identified needs within the community.
You may coordinate Early Help Plans, assessing each family member and establishing goals that both the family and surrounding professionals will work towards. Utilizing a strengths-based methodology, you will foster and maintain positive changes that enhance outcomes for children and young people.
You will contribute to creating a safe and inviting environment for young individuals through the Find It Out (FIO) initiative. Your ability to communicate effectively with young people will help you understand their needs and guide them towards suitable support at their convenience, including after school hours.
A collaborative team player, you will be passionate about engaging with parents, providing direct assistance, and encouraging families to utilize our services. Your initiative will be essential in organizing your responsibilities and addressing unforeseen challenges faced by families.
Candidates should possess experience working with families and a solid understanding of the significance of parenting skills and community development, along with the complexities of family life.
We seek individuals who hold an NVQ level 3 qualification in Childcare, Play Work, Family Support, or a related field.
Experience and Skills
Key Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities across diverse audiences, with a knack for presenting information clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing. Capable of providing specialized advice while maintaining trust with families who may be hesitant to engage with services. Strong customer service orientation, with the capacity to act as a primary contact and deliver a professional service tailored to individual and group needs. Sensitivity and flexibility in responding to various groups of providers and families while upholding confidentiality. Proficiency in organizing and prioritizing tasks, coordinating multiple responsibilities logically, and meeting deadlines. Ability to operate within established procedures, effectively managing your workload and using initiative to tackle unexpected issues.Qualifications and/or experience:
NVQ level 3 in childcare, play work, family support, or a related area, along with relevant experience working with parents, caregivers, and children. Comprehensive knowledge of child development. Understanding of the importance of parenting skills and community development, as well as the challenges associated with family life. Familiarity with safeguarding protocols. Experience in community-based family work. Background in early years, family support, family centers, or child health sectors.Benefits
