Position Overview

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Lead Clinical Psychologist to join our Staff Psychology Service, dedicated to supporting all personnel across our healthcare facilities. The Staff Psychology Service is committed to delivering a variety of evidence-based psychological support and interventions to assist staff in coping with the emotional challenges associated with their roles.

The service encompasses a wide array of interventions, including psychological therapy, consultation, debriefing, and tailored training programs. Additionally, the Staff Psychology Service plays a crucial role in various initiatives throughout the organization, emphasizing the significance of psychological insight at a systemic level.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with the Lead and Principal Psychologists within the team, providing interventions at multiple levels, including individual therapy, consultations, and psychological debriefs, while also contributing to team and organizational projects. There are ample opportunities for collaboration with colleagues within the Staff Psychology Service and across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct highly specialized psychological assessments and formulations for teams and staff members.
  • Deliver a variety of psychological interventions tailored to individual needs.
  • Facilitate psychological debriefs following critical incidents.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement customized interventions and resources.
  • Maintain awareness of the challenges that may affect the quality of clinical care, ensuring all concerns are reported through appropriate channels while safeguarding client confidentiality.
  • Perform risk assessments and management for individual clients, providing expert advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.

Department Overview

The Staff Psychology Service offers a comprehensive range of support interventions for staff. Our approach is blended, with expectations for the role to operate both on-site and remotely as necessary. The Service is situated within the People Directorate, collaborating closely with Workforce Leads to identify needs across various clinical and non-clinical areas. We proactively promote staff wellbeing through initiatives such as reflective practice and supervision, working alongside leaders to foster supportive practices.

The Staff Psychology Service comprises a team of applied psychologists, a counselor, and administrative support, alongside the Senior Psychologist role. The successful candidate will report to the Lead for the Staff Psychology Service, with numerous opportunities for professional development, including collaboration with the Trust Lead Psychologist on organizational-level interventions.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS, covering models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, multiple psychological therapies, and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training in specialized areas of psychological practice.
  • Training in clinical supervision and supervision of doctoral trainees.
  • Registration with BPS or UKCP.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence-based practice relevant to supporting individuals with mild to moderate mental health challenges or working in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Expertise in risk assessment and management.
  • Knowledge of legislation pertaining to mental health and client groups.
  • Ability to exercise full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care.
  • Experience in teaching, training, consultancy, and clinical supervision.
  • Involvement in research and development initiatives.
  • Commitment to quality improvement and service evaluation.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to creatively adapt evidence-based interventions for NHS staff facing significant and complex mental health challenges.
  • Proficient in providing effective teaching, training, consultancy, and clinical supervision for teams.
  • Capability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and undertake lead practitioner responsibilities.
  • Competence in utilizing psychometric assessments.
  • Skill in engaging with clients and working effectively in highly distressing and challenging situations.
