Transport Planner (Flatbed) Job Description

Reed Procurement & Supply Chain is partnering with a national transportation business to expand their transport operations within their Flatbed team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Transport Planner to join a growing and well-established team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Control the efficient deployment and routing of delivery vehicles around the UK, including route planning, resource allocation, and delivery metric administration.
  • Help deliver a first-class customer service through agreed KPIs that maximize vehicle and manpower utilization within a targeted budget.
  • Contribute to workplace health and safety standards while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Duties:
  • Plan workloads to ensure compliance with driver's hours.
  • Use geographical knowledge to maximize efficiencies.
  • Successfully plan vehicles to minimize running costs and maximize vehicle revenue.
  • Brief and debrief drivers.
  • Supervise and manage driver workloads.
  • SOURCE EXTRA DRIVERS WHEN NEEDED.
  • React to route planning changes and re-route as necessary.
  • Provide a detailed and accurate handover to the next shift.
  • Maintain driver and depot communication.
  • Ensure drivers have the correct paperwork and compliance.
  • Ensure drivers are up to date with any road problems and challenge drivers when necessary to ensure deliveries are on time.
  • Work within a team of planners to achieve the common goal of effectively servicing our current client base.
  • Liaise with the Transport Manager regarding regular maintenance intervals.
  • Liaise with Site Managers to obtain and provide key information such as ETAs.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a Transport Planner in a busy, fast-paced office.
  • Experience monitoring drivers.
  • A solid understanding of transport operating systems.
  • A knowledge of tachograph regulations.
  • Able to organize workload in a consistent and methodical way.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship building, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, work to deadlines, and work independently.
