Brighton, Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279) Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking dedicated and skilled professionals who are either fully qualified or in the process of obtaining their CIPD certification to become part of our Employee Relations team. While prior experience within the NHS is advantageous, it is not a strict requirement.

Your role will involve delivering expert advice and support to both management and staff on a variety of employee relations matters, which encompass all personnel, including medical staff. This will cover areas such as conduct and performance management, grievances, and absence management, all in alignment with organizational policies, current legislation, the ACAS code of practice, and other relevant professional standards.

It is essential to conduct thorough and high-quality evidence-based investigations into conduct and other personnel-related matters, ensuring that any risks or issues are identified promptly. This position offers a hybrid working arrangement, combining both office and remote work.

Key Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Delivering proactive and professional guidance to managers and employees on all employee relations matters, including conduct and performance management, grievances, and absence management, in accordance with organizational policies and legal standards.
  • Assisting managers in executing effective and high-quality evidence-based investigations into conduct and other personnel-related issues.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of employee case management strategies and providing input into broader employee relations case management across the organization.
  • Supporting managers in employing effective people management techniques to enhance service performance and productivity through mediation, coaching, and the development and delivery of training programs.

We value your unique experiences and perspectives, which contribute to our innovative community where everyone is encouraged to thrive. We offer various Staff Networks to foster inclusivity and can provide a buddy system to assist new team members in acclimating. As a Disability Confident Employer (Level 2) and a Veteran Aware Trust, we treat our patients and staff with the compassion and empathy we expect for ourselves. Our extensive Wellbeing Programme is designed to support our staff, recognizing that to care for others, we must first care for ourselves. As a university trust and a leader in healthcare research, we prioritize learning, teaching, and training to ensure we can provide the best possible care. From your first day with us and throughout your career, we are committed to supporting your growth and development. We hope that by choosing University Hospitals Sussex, you are embarking on a fulfilling career where you can make a meaningful impact and feel valued for your contributions.

Job Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive HR advice and support to staff and managers on workforce-related inquiries, which may be received via various communication channels.
  • Offering appropriate HR assistance to managers to ensure a fair and consistent approach to all employee relations matters, including making recommendations when no precedent exists or when options conflict.
  • Managing a caseload of complex employee relations cases in an advisory capacity, ensuring they are addressed appropriately and in a timely manner, while prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Assisting managers in conducting investigations within agreed timelines and participating in hearings, which includes preparation for investigations and support in producing necessary documentation.
  • Ensuring collaborative efforts between the HR team and line managers in managing sickness absence to reduce levels of absence and associated costs.
