We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Substance Misuse Support Specialist to join our Integrated Healthcare Service at HMPYOI Feltham. This facility operates as two distinct establishments, delivering healthcare services to young individuals in Feltham A (under 18 years) and adults in Feltham B (18 years and older). We are looking for professionals who understand the unique needs of these two groups and adhere to 'Child First' principles. Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Provide counseling to individuals regarding their substance use and/or harmful behaviors, utilizing motivational interviewing and other evidence-based techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and implement effective risk management strategies.
  • Understand and apply clinical governance principles.
  • Deliver services of the highest quality by adhering to local and national quality and performance standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures, including incident reporting.
  • Support the broader service with additional interventions as necessary, including initial clinical assessments, second signatory for controlled substances, urine testing, and dry blood-spot testing.
  • Perform CHAT assessments as required.

Communication Responsibilities:

  • Engage in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Communicate relevant information with partner agencies in accordance with local and Trust guidelines.
  • Foster a culture of open dialogue, enhancing communication and maintaining healthy therapeutic relationships with clients.
  • Contribute to team cohesion and collaborate effectively with colleagues across the Trust to promote healthy communication.
  • Develop professional relationships with other statutory and voluntary service providers, ensuring a unified approach.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges and/or offending behavior and/or other disabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with children and young people dealing with substance misuse issues.

Desirable:

  • Experience in direct care provision.
  • Background in working within prison settings and/or with adolescents, in forensic services, and/or substance misuse or CAMHS services.
  • Experience with young individuals involved in gang activities.
  • Experience co-facilitating psychosocial groups.
  • Teamwork experience.
  • Proficiency in using computers for data management and analysis, particularly SPSS for Windows.
  • Experience in collating and inputting NDTMS data.
  • Background in mental health substance misuse or related services.
  • Experience in a service with established targets for demonstrating outcomes.
  • Ability to manage a personal caseload and time effectively.

Training and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Evidence of working with children, teenagers, or adults facing substance misuse challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in undergraduate-level studies or equivalent.

Desirable:

  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counseling, or a specific psychological therapy.
  • Undergraduate degree in psychology or other health/social care/youth-related fields.
  • Relevant postgraduate degree.
  • Skills in motivational interviewing.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential:

  • Experience using IT for data management and analysis.

Desirable:

  • High standard of report writing skills.
