We are seeking a Fashion Design Assistant with a feminine aesthetic to become part of our dynamic and passionate Design team. Collaborating closely with your Buyer and under the guidance of the Senior Design team, you will create designs that capture the key trends of the season, aligning with our signature relaxed glamour ethos.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting research and interpreting designs for our jersey range in alignment with our relaxed glamour ethos, showcasing a feminine touch.
  • Staying informed about current and future trends relevant to your area, sharing ideas and inspirational references, and translating key trends and shapes into Mint Velvet's unique style.
  • Visiting inspiring shops, markets, and fabric fairs to gather relevant ideas for product development, collaborating with our in-house print and textile experts to compile supplier sourcing information.
  • Continuously exploring new shapes and trims while maintaining a strong commercial awareness of key competitors.
  • Specifying designs to a high standard and collaborating with your Buyer to ensure accurate interpretation of design specifications for sample accuracy.
  • Reviewing fit samples with your Buyer and Technologist, proactively addressing any issues to adhere to our critical path.
  • Regularly assessing the range with your Buyer to ensure a fresh selection, maximizing best sellers, and identifying any missed opportunities.
  • Presenting to the wider Design and Buying teams each season, effectively communicating the design and product vision for your area.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the fashion industry and strong technical design expertise, including graphic skills.
  • A genuine creative passion and an eye for detail, with an affinity for our signature 'relaxed glamour' ethos, capable of translating inspiration into appropriate designs.
  • In-depth knowledge of cut and sew jersey, soft fabrications, and trims, along with innovative ideas for utilizing trims and mixing fabrications.
  • Demonstrated ability in hand-drawn designs, as well as proficiency in CAD, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to prioritize tasks to achieve the highest standards.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate ideas and designs clearly and confidently, while responding positively to feedback.
  • A collaborative spirit, sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
  • Resilience in a fast-paced environment, adapting to change and embracing constructive feedback.
