Spire Wellesley in Southend is seeking an experienced Staff Nurse to join their bank team in the Pre-Assessment Department. We offer excellent training opportunities to enable you to develop your skills and progress in your career.

The Wellesley has 3 Theatres (2 laminar flow) and an endoscopy unit, a 33 bedded Surgical Ward covering a wide variety of specialties. We have had a recent Theatre refurbishment to further upgrade our theatre environment and bring cutting-edge technology to our hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities

This is a key patient safety role within Spire. The post holder will work as part of the Pre-operative assessment (POA) service ensuring safe and effective pre-operative care. Reporting to the POA lead Nurse, the post holder is responsible for ensuring the safe assessment of patients over the telephone. To work autonomously but also a team player. Be able to recognise complex health issues and medications that may lead to complications of surgery. Escalating concerns to anaesthetist and surgeons.

Requirements

  • Current NMC registration with no restrictions
  • Experience of working with minimum supervision
  • Good team player
  • Surgical Experience is ideal but not essential
  • Excellent communication as assessments are completed on the telephone
