Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative (MBPCC) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Clinical Pharmacist to lead a multi-PCN pharmacist professional support and advice service. The successful candidate will provide expert clinical strategic leadership to PCN ARRS Clinical Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians within the Morecambe Bay area.
Job SummaryThis is a highly specialised post that involves analysing and interpreting complex professional and clinical situations to develop, provide, and communicate effective solutions. The Principal Clinical Pharmacist will provide strategic leadership for clinical support and advice for PCNs, MBPCC, PCN Clinical Pharmacists, and Pharmacy Technicians.
Main Duties- Provide strategic leadership for clinical support and advice for PCNs, MBPCC, PCN Clinical Pharmacists, and Pharmacy Technicians.
- Support newly appointed PCN Clinical Pharmacists with PCN Pharmacy-related input into Clinical Pharmacy inductions, including where to go for help.
- Deliver introductions to Primary Care targets such as QoF, PCN DES, and ICB Quality Contracts.
- Facilitate medication optimisation knowledge and activity, including guidance and formulary information, and engagement in ICB programmes of work.
- Provide strategic clinical leadership on therapeutics, medicines optimisation, and quality improvement to support Clinical Pharmacists.
- Cascade information gained from local and national bodies to support Clinical Pharmacists.
- Advise on achieving Primary Care targets, including EMIS SNOMED codes.
- Provide medicines support via answering queries across multiple PCNs.
- Support Clinical Pharmacists in complex scenarios around medicines-related issues.
- Provide medicines management expertise and share best practice.
Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative (MBPCC) is a GP Federation in the beautiful Bay area, working with 30 GP practices and 8 PCNs across North Lancashire and South Cumbria. We are a small, friendly, and growing team looking for a like-minded individual to work with us.
Responsibilities- Attend interviews for Clinical Pharmacists or Pharmacy Technicians as required.
- Work closely with PCNs, equivalent band 7 and band 8a Clinical Pharmacists, to promote and embed the role of PCN Clinical Pharmacist.
- Work with primary care healthcare professionals to ensure agreed changes in medication are implemented and sustained.
- Lead on the development of protocols with key stakeholders to support prescribing initiatives.
- Proactively introduce and implement new/revised policies and guidelines to improve Clinical Governance around Medicines and prescribing.
- Attend PCN meetings and work to find solutions when problems arise linked to pharmacy or medicines.
- Provide clinical leadership for PCNs' strategic plans, working with members to improve the quality and effectiveness of its delivery of the PCN DES.
The successful candidate will have:
- A full UK driving license and ability to travel to multiple sites across Morecambe Bay as needed.
- 5 years' experience of working in a Clinical Pharmacy role and a minimum of 2 years of leadership and management experience in primary care.
- Competent user of EMIS Web.
- Experience of managing a team.
- Evidence of high-quality prescribing practice.
- A thorough understanding of the nature of primary care prescribing, concepts of rational prescribing, and strategies for improving prescribing.
- Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and negotiating skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to use MS software: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and email.
The successful candidate will have:
- Undergraduate degree in pharmacy.
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Completion of CPPE PCPEP or evidence of full exemption from the pathway.
- Experience working as a Primary Care Clinical Pharmacist.
- Registration with GPhC as an independent prescriber.
