Position Overview

The role involves delivering a thorough administrative support service to medical professionals, ensuring utmost confidentiality is upheld at all times.

The individual in this position will be expected to exhibit a high degree of initiative in managing their tasks and making informed decisions in line with departmental guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

This position entails providing effective clerical assistance to the Consultant Histopathologists and the department. Responsibilities include:

  • Distributing histology reports and managing the filing of information and request forms.
  • Coordinating the distribution of materials for second opinions.
  • Audio typing of histological reports and documenting minutes from meetings.
  • Extracting histological slides and retrieving cases for multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for inquiries via phone or in person.

Successful candidates will be expected to work during standard laboratory hours from Monday to Friday.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a minimum of GCSE qualifications in Mathematics and English or equivalent. Additionally, a typing or word processing qualification, such as OCR I/II or equivalent, is required.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing high-quality audio typing and word processing services, utilizing medical terminology as required by medical staff.
  • Ensuring timely access to confidential histology reports and facilitating communication with internal and external agencies.
  • Managing sensitive information and responding to inquiries from patients and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Maintaining accurate records and updating patient-related information in the computerized Patient Administration System.
  • Overseeing patient notes relevant to their responsibilities and assisting in the training of new or less experienced administrative staff.
