The NICU team at Portsmouth Hospitals is currently seeking experienced, motivated, and passionate Registered Nursing Associates to join our welcoming and collaborative environment. Together, we aim to provide thorough, personalized care and support to infants and their families.

As one of the premier level 3 neonatal units in the nation, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital has established a strong reputation for delivering high-quality nursing and medical services, education, and research.

Key Responsibilities

We are dedicated to providing outstanding care, reflected in the exceptional outcomes we achieve for our infants. We are proud to hold Platinum BLISS accreditation and have successfully completed stage one of the Baby Friendly Initiative.

The NICU is a bustling tertiary neonatal unit equipped with 14 intensive care cots, 4 high dependency cots, and 13 special care cots. The role is both professionally and personally demanding, but the fulfillment derived from making a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of the infants and families in your care is profound. We engage in some of the most intricate and innovative medical treatments, including Total Body Cooling, HFOV, Nitric Oxide Therapy, and Laser ROP Surgery. Additionally, we offer a well-regarded community neonatal outreach service.

Job Duties

  • To operate independently in support of registered staff and allied health care professionals, contributing to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care without direct supervision from a registered practitioner.
  • To ensure a high-quality care and support service that enables patients to navigate their care pathway while promoting independence and safeguarding choice, dignity, privacy, and safety.
  • To function as an Assistant Practitioner, ensuring that holistic care is provided and standards of care are continuously improved.
  • To regularly assess, evaluate, and report on actions and activities to registered practitioners and/or the Multidisciplinary Care Team, while recognizing and adhering to the boundaries of the Assistant Practitioner (Nursing) role.
  • To maintain effective communication at all times within the team, with other health care professionals, and with patients, families, caregivers, and visitors. Ensure high standards are upheld in a safe environment that promotes equality and sensitivity for all individuals.

Qualifications

Essential

  • UK Registered Nursing Associate with the NMC
  • Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent) OR IELTS C (for overseas staff only)

Desirable

  • Level 3 BTEC Award in Education and Training (formerly Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)

  • Previous relevant health care experience

  • Experience in supporting learning in practice
