Senior Neonatal Consultant

We are looking to recruit a permanent Senior Neonatal Consultant to enhance our existing team of 8 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) Neonatologists.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at our facility is one of three Level 3 neonatal units within the Thames Valley and Wessex Neonatal Network. This busy unit is equipped with 31 cots, including 14 level 1 intensive care cots, 4 level 2 intensive care cots, and 13 special care cots. The unit has the capacity to expand to 35 cots, with a flexible arrangement of 22 level 1 and 2 cots based on clinical requirements and nursing staff availability. Our intensive care cots are fully outfitted to deliver comprehensive medical intensive care, including High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV), inhaled nitric oxide therapy, and therapeutic hypothermia.

Annually, we manage approximately 500 neonatal admissions, with around 120 of these being infants weighing less than 1,500 grams or born before 30 weeks of gestation. Our unit boasts exceptional outcomes, consistently surpassing national (MBRRACE-UK and NNAP) and international (Vermont Oxford Network) benchmarks, with a proven history of high survival rates for preterm infants and low morbidity rates. The department actively engages in research initiatives and is currently involved in several multicenter studies. Our facility witnesses around 5,000 births each year, primarily occurring in the adjacent delivery suite and co-located midwifery-led unit.

The initial job plan will encompass 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). Candidates must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and possess a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics (Neonatal Medicine).
