Band 6 Specialist Nurse Position

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Band 7 Lung Cancer Nurse Specialist to join their team. This is a unique opportunity for a nurse with extensive experience in respiratory medicine or cancer care to expand their clinical skills and knowledge while supporting the development of an expanding patient-centred service.
Main Responsibilities:- To assess the information needs of patients, service users, family, and friends, and provide relevant support, information, education, advice, and counselling when necessary.
- To support patients with lung cancer throughout the duration of their cancer journey from the period of investigation, diagnosis, and treatment and beyond.
- To ensure continuity for patients referred for specialist care by liaison with the referring centre.
- Facilitates all staff in the development of practice with a view to promoting person-centred care when caring for the individual with lung cancer.
Education/Training/Qualification:
- Registered Nurse level 1
- Teaching qualification
- Educated to minimum of 1st degree level or equivalent experience
- Post registration qualification relevant to specialty
- Evidence of continued professional development
Experience:
- Substantial post-registration experience in lung cancer conditions and treatments
- Previous experience in a post involving clinical and managerial responsibilities
- Knowledge of current advances and pathways of care relevant to specialty
- Proven evidence of improving the patient experience
- Experience of multi-professional working
Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence
- Skilled in use of computer/keyboard
- Ability to problem-solve, prioritise and to work to deadlines
- Ability to motivate staff and improve individuals and team performance
- Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with multi-professional teams
- Demonstrates evidence of knowledge and ability to undertake change management
- Able to manage stressful situations and challenge decisions to ensure that patient needs are met
