Job Overview

Barrington James is seeking a highly skilled Photonics Engineer to lead the design and development of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for telecommunications, data centers, sensors, and other advanced applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development: Lead the design of PICs, including waveguides, modulators, detectors, and other photonic components, using industry-standard design tools such as Lumerical, OptiFDTD, and Synopsys.
  • Simulation and Modeling: Perform optical and electrical simulations to optimize the performance of photonic devices and systems, ensuring they meet stringent specifications.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Work closely with the fabrication team to prototype PICs. Conduct hands-on testing and characterization of devices, analyzing results to refine and improve designs.
  • Process Integration: Collaborate with process engineers to develop and refine fabrication processes, including lithography, etching, and deposition techniques, ensuring high-yield and manufacturable designs.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze test data to identify trends, performance bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. Use statistical tools and methods to validate design performance against theoretical models.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including specifications, test reports, and design guidelines, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal quality systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary teams including R&D, product development, and manufacturing to support the integration of PICs into larger photonic systems.
  • Innovation and Research: Stay updated with the latest advancements in photonics and PIC technologies. Drive innovation by proposing new design methodologies, processes, and applications.
  • Project Management: Manage project timelines and deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in photonic integrated circuit design and development.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in photonic design software (e.g., Lumerical, Synopsys, OptiFDTD) and experience with semiconductor fabrication processes.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
