Position Overview

This role is a temporary contract with a local authority.

Role Summary:

· The Families & Singles Service is dedicated to assisting individuals facing the threat of homelessness or those currently without stable housing, aiming to help them maintain their existing living situations or transition into appropriate private rental options.

· This service collaborates with various partners to enhance resilience and housing stability, aligning with the Early Help strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

· The Homeless Families & Singles team is tasked with providing expert guidance and working in close partnership with stakeholders to prevent or postpone homelessness, thereby reducing the number of individuals requiring temporary housing or living on the streets.

· The Housing Support Specialist will be integrated within the Families Team, engaging closely with the judicial system, legal representatives, and the local authority's legal department to avert homelessness.

· Deliver exceptional customer service to individuals seeking housing assistance and key stakeholders.

· Provide specialized case management for homelessness, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, strategies, policies, and initiatives at all levels through effective supervision, advice, and support.

· Utilize all available homelessness prevention resources effectively and collaborate with both internal and external partners to enhance outcomes for those at risk of homelessness.

· Play a role in promoting best practices in safeguarding across the broader Housing Advisory Service.

· Contribute to the overarching goal of reducing the number of households in temporary accommodation by supporting them in contesting landlord actions and court orders.

Essential Experience:

· Proven experience in making homelessness-related decisions, with a solid understanding of safeguarding vulnerable individuals is crucial.

· Familiarity with welfare systems, homelessness reduction legislation, housing policies, and relevant case law, including court processes and eviction procedures, is essential.

Essential Qualifications:

· A strong educational background with proficient written and verbal communication skills is required.

Additional Information:

· Standard working hours are 35 hours per week.

Requirements:
The Families & Singles Service is committed to supporting individuals at risk of homelessness or those currently experiencing it, focusing on maintaining their current housing or facilitating a move to suitable private rental accommodations. The service also emphasizes collaboration with partners to bolster resilience and housing sustainability, in line with the Early Help strategy.
