Job Summary

The Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Diabetic Eye Screening Specialist. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality eye health services to our patients.

Main Responsibilities
  • Observe and care for patients attending screening appointments, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout the process.
  • Liaise with administrative staff, porters, nurses, and medical staff to ensure seamless communication and coordination of care.
  • Carry out Diabetic Eye Screening appointments, taking images of the retina using a retinal imaging camera, and grading images according to national standards.
  • Manage clinics independently, making decisions and seeking support as needed, while maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Supervise trainee staff in a clinic setting, assessing their performance against standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in service improvement projects, contributing to the development of new protocols and procedures to enhance patient care.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a Diabetic Eye Screening Programme.
  • Knowledge of National QA Standards.
  • Experience of using software packages and data input and reconciliation.
  • Experience in the field of science, photography, or healthcare.
  • European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent through experience.
Desirable Qualifications
  • A recognised photographic qualification to HND or Degree level.
  • A recognised science-based qualification to HND or Degree level.
  • IT/data analysis experience.
Key Skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with staff and patients who have experienced sensory loss, deaf, or visual impairment.
  • Ability to document information clearly and precisely.
  • Able to handle difficult conversations with tact and diplomacy.
