About UsEstablished in 1987 by a dedicated group of Foster Parents, we became the UK's first independent Foster Care agency. With over 30 years of fostering expertise, we continue to thrive. Our founders recognized that children in care, particularly those with challenging backgrounds, required specialized assistance. From the outset, our focus has been on placing the child at the heart of our mission, supported by a comprehensive range of services.

What does ISP stand for?
Integrated Service Programme.

Over the years, our support network has expanded to include a diverse array of professionals available to assist children and foster parents whenever necessary.

This team comprises social workers, fostering support specialists, educators, and therapists, all collaborating with our foster parents and the children they care for, helping them navigate even the most complex situations.

This approach is known as a 'therapeutic model' of fostering, which we pioneered.

What We Are Looking ForJust like our children, foster parents require support, encouragement, practical guidance, and sometimes simply someone to listen.

The Fostering Support Specialists in our teams play a crucial role in providing the necessary assistance to our foster parents. This vital position will involve regular visits to foster parents, offering guidance and information regarding the various services and support available to them at ISP, including matching considerations, respite care, training, supervised contact, and transportation.

Role Responsibilities
  • Maintain regular phone communication with foster parents to discuss general progress and share ideas and strategies.
  • Conduct home visits as agreed with the ISP Social Worker and Centre Manager.
  • Provide foster parents with relevant information and advice on the support and services available through ISP and the Fostering Network, particularly regarding procedures to follow in the event of an allegation or complaint.
  • Coordinate training sessions for foster parents.
  • Actively engage in:
    • Contact arrangements and supervised interactions.
    • Respite and transportation arrangements, including direct transport of children when necessary.
    • TSDS Training.
    • Crisis intervention.
    • Matching considerations.
    • Support children and young people in their recreational activities.
    • Facilitate discussion groups and presentations at the Centre, including participation in team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date records as required.
  • Stay informed about applicable regulations and standards.
  • Undertake additional duties, tasks, or projects as requested by the Centre Manager.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team member and participate in ISP events, such as programme meetings.
What You Will Need
  • Understanding of fostering regulations and standards, including the Children's Act & Fostering Service National Minimum Standards.
  • Some firsthand knowledge or experience of fostering, ideally as a foster parent or within a fostering family.
  • Previous experience or a desire to work within a therapeutic model of child care.
  • Experience in providing support to foster parents and young people.
  • Good understanding of attachment theory and working within a therapeutic framework.
  • Ability to recognize foster parents as professionals and challenge appropriately when necessary, in a manner that is effective and maintains the relationship.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with professionals from various disciplines.
  • Intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and experience with spreadsheets and databases.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines and service requirements.
  • Commitment to fostering positive working relationships with other staff, external agencies, children & young people, and foster parents.

A full driving license, unrestricted access to your own vehicle, and confidence in driving across the region are essential. The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS Check, the cost of which will be covered by ISP.

ISP is an equal opportunities employer and actively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates. ISP is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment.
