Highway Maintenance Operative

Location: Various areas within Derbyshire

Salary: £23,893 - £24,348 - Plus competitive benefits package, overtime, and standby compensation.

We are seeking a dedicated Highway Maintenance Operative to contribute to our efforts in maintaining and enhancing the roadways across Derbyshire.

This role presents a unique opportunity to influence the management and development of Derbyshire's road network as part of the Council's ongoing Highways transformation initiative.

You will be engaged in a vital segment of our operations that is integral to the Council's Service Plan, collaborating with a driven team focused on elevating service delivery through innovative technologies and optimal work practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Operating various vehicles and machinery to perform tasks such as pothole repairs, ironwork replacement, kerbing, and road closures. Supporting the Maintenance Chargehand in conducting and reviewing risk assessments, and establishing safe working protocols for both staff and subcontractors to ensure a high standard of site safety. Managing oil spill clean-ups and removing obstructions from roadways. Participating in a mandatory emergency service rota outside of regular hours, for which additional compensation will be provided.

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

A valid driving license. Experience in highway maintenance and construction services. The capability to work safely and effectively, meeting performance and quality benchmarks while maintaining positive interactions with the public and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
