Highway Maintenance Operative

Location: Various Areas in Derbyshire

Salary: £23,893 - £24,348 - Plus competitive benefits package, overtime, and standby compensation.

We are seeking a dedicated Highway Maintenance Operative to contribute to our efforts in maintaining and enhancing the roadways across Derbyshire.

This role presents a unique opportunity to influence the management and development of Derbyshire's highway infrastructure as part of the Council's ongoing transformation initiatives.

You will be engaged in a critical segment of our operations that is integral to the Council's Service Plan, working alongside a motivated team focused on improving service delivery through innovative technologies and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Operating various vehicles and equipment to perform tasks such as pothole repairs, ironwork replacement, kerbing installations, and managing road closures. Supporting the Maintenance Chargehand in conducting and reviewing risk assessments, as well as developing and implementing safe working procedures for both staff and subcontractors to ensure a high standard of site safety. Responding to oil spills and clearing debris from roadways. Participating in a mandatory emergency response rota outside of regular working hours, with additional compensation for this service.

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

A valid driving license. Experience in highway maintenance and construction. A proven ability to work safely and effectively to meet performance and quality benchmarks, while maintaining positive interactions with the public and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
