Position Overview

This role presents a unique opportunity for a registered clinical psychologist with a profound interest and expertise in supporting children facing physical health challenges and/or intricate neurodevelopmental disorders. The successful candidate will become part of a newly established Community Children's Psychology Service, dedicated to serving diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities

The selected individual will be responsible for conducting psychological evaluations, developing treatment plans, and implementing interventions for neurodivergent children and their families. This position also entails assessing neurodevelopmental disorders as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team. The role offers a chance to influence the development of services tailored to meet the needs of children and families requiring community-based psychological support.

Additionally, the post holder will oversee the supervision and management of junior clinical psychologists and an assistant psychologist, ensuring high standards of practice and professional development within the team.

Professional Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • HCPC Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Eligibility for full membership of the BPS division of clinical, health, or counselling psychology
  • BSc (Hons) in Psychology
  • Doctorate level qualification in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, or health psychology (or equivalent)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Additional training in ADOS and ADI-R/DISCO assessments

Experience Requirements

Essential:

  • Proven experience in delivering comprehensive psychological assessments and interventions across diverse populations using various therapeutic models, including CBT.
  • Experience in applying psychological principles in varied cultural contexts.
  • Experience supervising pre-qualified psychologists and other professionals.
  • Experience providing both group and individual interventions utilizing evidence-based psychological methods.

Desirable:

  • Experience in specialized psychological assessment and treatment for patients with physical health issues and complex psychological needs.
  • Experience in assessing conditions such as ASD, ADHD, and Intellectual Disability.

Skills and Competencies

Essential:

  • Ability to manage challenging caseloads while maintaining professionalism in emotionally charged situations.
  • Capability to work autonomously with appropriate clinical and managerial oversight.
  • Ability to provide consultation to various professional and non-professional groups.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management.

Desirable:

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized psychological therapies for individuals with complex physical and mental health challenges.
