Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Field Service Engineer to join our team at SMT GB. This role will focus on delivering exceptional service to our clients while working with construction machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on Volvo construction machinery and other equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using technical expertise and diagnostic tools, providing insightful recommendations to clients.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for additional services and discuss these with customers and management.
  • Adhere to service quotations and timelines, informing management of any additional work needed.
  • Ensure timely installation of software updates as they become available.
  • Maintain accurate electronic records of work performed, including reports and timesheets.
  • Order necessary parts and ensure their return in a clean and timely manner upon job completion.
  • Be available for overtime and respond to reasonable call-out requests.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions to enhance product knowledge.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics, or a related field (e.g., NVQ 3/C&G).
  • Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy construction machinery, with a strong technical background in diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills and a solid understanding of hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with colleagues, management, and clients.
  • A cost-conscious approach to work, aiming for maximum profitability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and high-level diagnostic skills.
  • Proficient in using computer systems and software.
  • Attention to detail and a conscientious work ethic.
  • Reliable, honest, and trustworthy with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to comprehend technical documentation and systems.

Desirable:

  • Experience in welding and fabrication.
