British American Tobacco is seeking a talented Undergraduate Intern to join our Research and Development team in Southampton. As a key member of our Analytical Development team, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and advancing our mission to decrease the health impact of our industry.

About the Role

This 12-month placement offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art mass spectrometry equipment and techniques. You will work closely with experienced scientists to develop, validate, and test automated workflows for non-targeted analysis, design programs for spectral data analysis, and contribute to innovative research projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize analytical methods for measuring constituents of modern oral products
  • Work closely with scientists to plan, design, and conduct laboratory experiments
  • Analyze and interpret complex spectral data
  • Design and implement automated workflows for mass spectrometry-based non-targeted analysis
Requirements
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Forensic Science, or a related discipline
  • Awareness of analytical and chemical sciences
  • Basic knowledge of mass spectrometry
  • Experience with data analysis and Python or R programming
