Position Overview

The infrastructure of electricity networks and energy storage is pivotal for achieving net zero emissions and is essential for the advancement of renewable energy sources. It is projected that significant investments, potentially reaching £240 billion by 2050, will be necessary for the enhancement of distribution and transmission networks. Furthermore, the GB Grid may require approximately 50GW of flexible storage capacity by 2035, leading to substantial financial commitments.

Role Responsibilities

Your primary focus will be on cultivating relationships across various government sectors, engaging with senior industry leaders, and liaising with international representatives to foster a conducive business environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Engaging with the market to gain insights into industry and supply chain requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with OFGEM and DESNZ on forthcoming policies and reforms to ensure they promote domestic manufacturing and address industry concerns regarding networks and storage.
  • Coordinating webinars with industry stakeholders from key markets, facilitating inbound trade delegations, and supporting outbound trade missions to secure international business opportunities.
  • Maintaining regular communication with industry stakeholders, including Transmission Operators (TOs) and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), to encourage collaboration and enhance investment certainty for new market entrants.
  • Providing business support to companies regarding trade opportunities while maintaining an overview of UK capabilities.
  • Advising the department and the government on sector strengths and opportunities.
  • Working with analytical teams to continuously refine the data that informs policy decisions.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • A strong interest in the electrical networks and energy storage sectors, particularly in relation to the transition to net zero.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, including executive leadership.
  • Proven ability to establish productive and collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, from government departments to private enterprises.
  • Capability to maintain a comprehensive understanding of broader net zero policies and their contribution to achieving clean energy goals by 2030.
  • Experience in independently leading projects and proactively seeking opportunities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to emerging priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Background in the Electrical Networks and/or Energy Storage sectors.
  • Experience in trade and/or investment.
