Autism Support Worker

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Social Support Assistant to join our team at Disability North. The successful candidate will provide social support and befriending services to a young adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at Durham University.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide social support and companionship to the individual on a regular basis, ideally on Saturdays.
- Engage in activities such as going for walks, having coffee, and attending classical concerts together.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of the individual's needs, preferences, and interests.
- Use good listening skills, empathy, and a sense of humor to build a positive relationship with the individual.
- Support the individual in developing social skills and reducing social isolation.
Requirements:
- Good understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder and experience of supporting individuals with Autism.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Car driver preferred.
- Permission to work in the UK.
Desirable Qualities:
- Appreciation of classical music.
- Ability to speak German or Russian.
