We are seeking a dedicated Solicitor / Associate to join our esteemed Property Damage team in Manchester. This specialized team, part of our broader Speciality division, serves a diverse clientele including Major London Market Insurers, Global Insurers and reinsurers, Major UK Composite insurers, large corporates, SMEs, and local authorities.
Our Expertise
The Property Damage team possesses extensive experience in handling all types of property damage claims, encompassing incidents such as major fires, floods, building collapses, water escapes, and subsidence. Our services include:
- Subrogated recoveries from third parties
- Defense of claims made against policyholders
- Policy coverage advice
- Advice on policy wordings
- Guidance on fraudulent claims
Your Responsibilities
As a Property Damage Litigation Associate, you will play a vital role in supporting our partners and senior lawyers. Your key responsibilities will encompass:
- Proactively managing cases under supervision
- Preparing comprehensive reports, correspondence, and court documents
- Providing clients with expert advice on liability and coverage matters
- Collaborating effectively with insurer and insured clients, experts, witnesses, counsel, and other stakeholders
- Ensuring adherence to client service level agreements, relevant policies, and procedures
- Contributing to business development initiatives
- Completing management information tasks
- Delegating tasks and mentoring trainees and paralegals
- Assisting with other assignments as directed by the Team Manager
- Embracing Weightmans' core values in all your endeavors

About You
To excel in this role, you will possess:
- 2-6 years of PQE or equivalent experience
- Proven experience in insurance litigation and policy coverage analysis
- A strong understanding of commercial insurance policies, the insurance market, reporting arrangements, reserving philosophies, and the relationships between brokers, underwriters/insurers, and lawyers
- Previous secondment to or employment with an insurance organization would be highly advantageous
- The ability to work effectively to deadlines, prioritize tasks, manage a caseload, and deliver solutions under pressure
- Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to work independently
- A commercial, solution-oriented, and client-focused approach
- Strong legal and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with a positive attitude
- Proficiency in IT applications
