Position Overview

We are in search of a temporary Facilities Maintenance Manager to collaborate with our esteemed global client, Unilever, recognized for its iconic brands.

This role is a full-time temporary position, requiring a commitment of 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The compensation for this position is competitive, reflecting experience and expertise.

Primary Responsibilities

The Facilities Maintenance Manager will be responsible for delivering maintenance and responsive support for site facilities, equipment, and systems. This includes overseeing contractor management related to the building infrastructure within a large manufacturing environment. The role is pivotal in ensuring adherence to planned statutory and maintenance activities, while also driving enhancements in performance concerning cost, service, and quality.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering robust maintenance support to enhance safety, personnel, cost efficiency, and service quality.
  • Implementing improvements in maintenance performance and cost reduction by identifying and applying best practice techniques, as well as conducting root cause analysis to develop sustainable solutions for recurring downtime issues.
  • Leading and supporting improvement initiatives through the change management process, from minor adjustments to capital expenditure justifications and commissioning.
  • Utilizing strong technical knowledge to prioritize multiple tasks independently, ensuring high reliability of all equipment and systems.
  • Executing best practice contractor management and permit-to-work processes, ensuring contractors deliver quality-driven services that provide value for money.
  • Identifying, sourcing, and ensuring the availability of maintenance spare parts and contracted services.
  • Taking ownership and providing support for engineering shutdowns and start-ups within the designated area.
  • Establishing effective communication with key stakeholders to ensure all work complies with Environmental, Health & Safety standards and business requirements.
  • Assisting in the transition of the department's maintenance database into an IT-based maintenance planning system.
  • Responding promptly to safety tags entered into the maintenance system to ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Overseeing all civil-related infrastructure on the site, including building fabric, roofs, floors, ceilings, drainage systems, doors, windows, and plumbing.

Required Experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in a building maintenance or facilities management role.
  • Proven experience in managing contractors through permit-to-work systems (minimum of 3 years).
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary projects (minimum of 3 years).
  • Extensive knowledge of construction design management regulations, asbestos management, and safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills for effective stakeholder management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH certification.
  • City and Guilds Level 3 in a civil discipline.
  • Project management training.
  • Permit-to-work training.
  • Asbestos management experience.
  • Experience with excavation and demolition processes.
