Sound City stands as the UK's leading advocate for emerging music talent, recognized globally for its music festival and talent development initiatives, while serving as an international representative for the cultural richness of Liverpool, firmly rooted in the North of England.

Since our inception in 2007, we have been at the forefront of creating and executing events across the UK, Europe, America, and Asia. Our mission is to craft cultural experiences that resonate with diverse audiences and to implement transformative music-making and support programs aimed at marginalized and underrepresented youth.

Our Vision: To foster a world where everyone can harness the transformative power of music.

Our Mission: To empower more artists and industry professionals to thrive, work, and receive training within the Liverpool City Region, while striving to diversify the music sector.

Over the years, we have showcased over 7,000 artists to an audience of 550,000 both locally and internationally. We have been a launching pad for numerous stars, including notable names.

Our efforts have led to the creation of 200 jobs, the support of 42 start-ups, and the mentorship of over 200 artists and 1,000 young individuals who have achieved remarkable success in the music industry.

As an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) since 2018, we are on a promising path towards attaining full charitable status.

We are currently looking to recruit additional volunteer Board Members with specialized knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Environmental Responsibility and Sustainability
  • Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity (EDI) and Justice
  • Charitable Governance and Financial Oversight

Additionally, we seek other volunteer Board Members who are passionate about music, dedicated to our vision and mission, and who can represent key stakeholder groups, including young individuals (aged 18-25), emerging artists, and music industry professionals, particularly those from minority, underrepresented, and disadvantaged backgrounds in the North of England.

This role is non-remunerated, though reasonable expenses will be reimbursed (e.g., travel for in-person board meetings or training/networking events). All board members are expected to commit to approximately 3 days (24 hours) annually, with more involvement available for those interested in optional activities:

  • Attendance at quarterly board meetings - typically lasting 2 hours each, conducted either online or in person, alongside necessary preparatory reading.
  • Engagement in subcommittees or working groups – focusing on specific governance areas (e.g., finance) or ACE Investment Principles, which may involve taking a lead role in areas aligned with your expertise.
  • Participation in training and networking sessions - including our annual festival and conference, along with tailored training activities to enhance board members' skills and knowledge (e.g., in charitable governance, EDI).
  • Optional mentoring delivery – to Sound City team members or participants in our various learning and development programs.
