We are seeking a talented and forward-thinking individual to join our IT team as a Senior Technical Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a wide and varied technical landscape, ensuring the efficient and reliable running of the Council's technology solutions, systems, and infrastructure.

As a Senior Technical Specialist, you will be part of a large IT technical function, working with internal colleagues, external partners, and suppliers to get the best out of existing technology investments. You will own and lead in the day-to-day operation, administration, and support of key tech-stacks within your remit.

The successful candidate will have experience in installation, configuration, and administration of firewall technologies and other security platforms, as well as experience of working with network security solutions and being aware of vulnerability and threat management best practice and cyber security principles.

You will also have experience of working with and administering Windows and Linux operating systems both on-prem and in the cloud, and be able to communicate complex issues both verbally and in written format in a concise and easy-to-understand manner at all levels.

About You

  • You must be qualified to NVQ Level 4 (or equivalent) or come with proven substantial IT experience with evidence of operating at a practitioner level (SFIA level 3) in a large IT environment.
  • You must have experience in installation, configuration, and administration of firewall technologies and other security platforms.
  • You must have experience of working with network security solutions and be aware of vulnerability and threat management best practice and cyber security principles.
  • You must have experience of working with and administering Windows and Linux operating systems both on-prem and in the cloud.
  • You must be able to communicate complex issues both verbally and in written format in a concise and easy-to-understand manner at all levels.
  • You must possess excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage priorities and work to deadlines and be able to work systematically whilst remaining calm under pressure.
